my axle seal on my 2000 dodge dakota is leaking and found a garage to fix it for $ 50 bucks does this sound right
That's a decent price. How reputable is the garage? I'm a firm believer in always keeping a healthy skepticism about the lowest price. It is worth it in cases concerning automotive repair to find a good shop you can trust. Expect to pay for the work, but feel safe in the trust you can build with an honest shop.
50 BUCKS IS CHEAP FOR ANYTHING A MECHANIC CHARGES.
Spend the 50 bucks on the parts and do it yourself. Very very easy to do. New boot, packing grease, and some hose clamps or some sort of tightening seal around the boot to axles and that's all you'll need. Basically take the wheel off, loosen the axle nut, unbolt brake line brackets, unbolt the top and bottom control arms so the spindle comes off fully and you should be able to slide the axle out. Take off the old boot off and clean up the mess. Slide the new boot on, pack it, and tighten the ends down on the axle with the new clamps or whatever you use and then work in the reverse steps by putting axle in, bolting the controls onto the spindles, bolt brake line brackets on again, and tighten AND torque your axle nut to specifications along with the rest of the bolts and nuts taken off during this. It is a very easy process, done it many times before for friends.
