I am sitting here down loading photos of Quartz Druzy from Indonesia. I had a geologist tell me the fossil coral is 25 million years old but how about this micro-crystal quartz druzy. They are quite beautiful.
No quartz crystal of any size has a perfect internal structure, as a result the annealing at high temperature creates areas of high stress around the minute imperfections. These stress areas contain pent up energy which can, and often is, released by the slightest knock resulting in fractures. Due to the relative softness of the coatings all the coated gems (Aqua Aura quartz, mystic quartz/topaz etc.) suffer from another serious problem in that they are highly susceptible to scratching and abrasive wear making them absolutely unsuitable for ring stones and even in other types of settings will not have a an even reasonable life span. They are pretty but with the passage of time they will always prove to be very disappointing purchases as gemstones. Hope that helps a little.
