I have some polyester batts in my roof and I want to check what R rating they are. So how thick is a typical batt. Can you let me know the R rating of your batts and their thickness?BTW - If you can't touch them without gloves and safety goggles, then they are fibreglass batts and will be different.

The smoke detectors in group housing are designed to not be overridden. They're trying to stop exactly what you're trying to do. Smoke outside.
The corona of the Sun is close to 2 million degrees Kelvin but the particles there are in such a vacuum that they do not cause much of a problem for the Solar Probe Plus mission (mentioned above). Reflecting the Sun's radiation will be the problem. [The movie Sunshine made use of this problem.]
