Question:

How to adjust the swipe distance on windshield wipers.?

My son has a ‘98 Saturn. The windshield wipers go down too far on the passenger side and almost sit on the hood. When they wipe, the drivers side wiper doesn‘t swipe all the way over.it finishes it‘s pass about six inches from the edge of the windshield. There‘s got to be a simple way to adjust them but I don‘t know howany ideas?

Answer:

The wiper arm is attached to a knurled shaft. The wiper arm can be removed (Usually with a 10mm wrench) and adjusted by rotating it on the shaft.
There is only one way to 'properly' perform that adjustment. At the base of the wiper arm (where it pivots) there will be a nut underneath the plastic cap. It is usually a 13mm (size socket you will need). Simply hold the wiper arm and loosen/remove this nut (counter clockwise). Some wiggling will pull the entire arm off so you can reposition it better. Truly there is no adjustment and if the arm has never been removed due to bodywork or glass replacement, it is most likely bent.
