Why would you want to press wood?
I don't think you would be able to build one the same quality for less than you could buy one. Companies that build them build them in large quantitys for cheep. you are probily best off finding a used one for cheep or free.
It is probably not too great of an idea to build a wood bench press. first, if you are lifting heavy weights then i'm not sure that wood is going to be strong enough to hold it without cracking, breaking, splintering, etc... your best bet would be to join a gym or buy a metal one.
