I recently moved into a new flat and the carpets in the bedrooms are pretty dirty. There seems to be felt tip pen marks and smeared in makeup from the previous owners. The colour of the carpet is light grey.I'll buy new carpets in the future, but I just want them nice and clean seeing as I can't afford new ones at the moment. How can I clean them?
You can hire a 'Rug Doctor' from a few large supermarkets. BQ hire them and sell the chemical.
Ideally they should be professionally cleaned with the markers and make up, both really tough stains. Professionally cleaning really isn't that expensive especially if you can find a coupon from the company for a discount. My question is why isn't the landlord getting involved?
I have rented a rug doctor machine to clean carpets and it works well and its not that hard. There are many video tutorials on line to show how. Vacuum the carpet very well before you start. It probably won't get the marks from felt tip pens. Its pretty cheap- about $35 for 24 hours rental of the machine plus about $12 for the carpet cleaning soap.
