Anything thrown at a specific speed will go furthest if it's thrown at an angle of 44 degrees. Any more and the distance will be less since more of it's initial velocity will be used for altitude instead of horizontal flight. Any less and gravity will cause the object to hit the ground sooner. So, any angle less than 45 degrees by x degrees will have the same horizontal distance as an angle x degrees greater than 45 degrees
yes the duct right at the furnace can get very hot not sure about the other issue but a power out can do that sort of thing or maybe an old thermostat and needs to be replaced
