Question:

How to dry carpet in the car?

Hi, everyone, Last friday night accidentally I park my car near gutter and it was raining very hard. Any way my car was flooded, the water level.thank God the car is working great except that the air bag light is not going off. I am planning to take it to body shop. Anyway my question is about the wet carpet in the car. I tried everything from using wet/dry vacuum to hair dry to leave the car open in the sun for few days. For some reason the moist is still there and has a bed perfume. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.thanks

Answer:

Things You’ll Need: Automotive carpet shampoo Carpet brush Carpet steam cleaner or wet/dry vacuum Step1 Pull out all floor mats and remove all trash, child seats and anything else that can be removed. Mats and other objects should be cleaned separately from the carpet so you aren't just transferring dirt around. Step2 Wipe down or brush off the ceiling, the interior side of the doors and the seats. This way, dirt from the interior of the car won't fall off into the car's carpet and undo your hard work. Step3 Vacuum the car carpet (do this dry). Vacuuming first gets all the loose grime up out of the carpet fibers so that you don't rub it in deeper when you later shampoo the carpet. This is a very important step that should never be skipped. Step4 Spray automotive carpet shampoo on the carpet. You should spray it on the most heavily soiled areas first so that it will have more time to penetrate the fibers. Any carpet shampoo should work, but automotive carpet shampoos are created specifically for the heavy grime commonly found in car carpets. Step5 Work the shampoo into the carpet using the carpet brush. Pay extra attention to stains and exceptionally dirty areas. Step6 Let the shampoo sit on the carpet for a few minutes and then vacuum with a wet/dry vacuum or a carpet steam cleaner. Afterward, touch the carpet to make sure it is not too damp. If it feels wet, open all the car doors and direct a fan toward the car interior to speed up drying. ________________ Pick a mild, dry day to shampoo car carpet. The carpet should be dried as quickly as possible Frequent vacuuming will lengthen the time between shampooing your car carpet. The sooner you get loose dirt up, the less time it has to penetrate the carpet fibers. Always read the directions on the carpet shampoo before using. Different shampoos may require different techniques.
Rent a rug doctor steam cleaner with the attachments.
go to a detailer they strip out the carpet and clean under with the good stuff. I had spilled gasoline in my trunk and we did everything until we just took it to a detailer. It shouldnt cost too much. Better do it soon because mold can grow and get u sick.
suggest that once you have vacuumed the excess water, move the car inside if possible, open all car doors and and use electric fans to dry out the carpet. If you do this overnight it should be dry by morning. this is how I have seen the shops do it.
If I were you, I would just put new carpets in it. Mold and Bacteria has grown already, and not to mention the resale value of the car is significantly tarnished. Plus, this gives you an excuse to spend some love/attention/money on ur car :)
