Are you sure you pressed the TEST button? My smoke detectors have a 'silence' button and a 'test/reset' button. When boiling water in the kitchen sets off the alarm and I press the silence button, it beeps periodically until it resets. Then the light flashes until I press the test/reset button.
If and review their product safety manuals. They specifically say DO NOT use self- cleaning feature. And they recommend BC extinguishers for kitchen.
