How to kill rats that are on my attic?

My attic is not one of those that are easily accessed, you have to go through a tiny square shaped hole to get in there, and it has a thick layer of blown insulationSo recently I've been hearing the rats walking up there from my room at night when it's quietI have no clue how many there are nor if they live there.What's the best way to kill them? I can't go up there because I'm afraid the ceileing will break.I can stick my body through the whole but I can't step on the ceilingIs there a poison in spray form that will kill them?
