Question:

How to preform my first concert?

Hi! Ive never really preformed before Im a teenager and I write songs. How many original songs should I preform? How do i interact with the audience? How do I segway between songs? help!

Answer:

I've never preformed myself. I not sure how. I could give you some advice on PERFORMING. You don't say what kind of concert this is, or who your audience is going to be. It matters both in content and how you interact and how many original songs you should do (from all original material to none). Segues (segways) should be limited, maybe a brief introduction to the song you are about to do (if there isn't a pre-printed program that the audience members will be given when they come in). If you aren't good at light banter and making jokes (if this is even appropriate--again depending on circumstances), then you'll just look and feel awkward and make the audience uncomfortable too, if not annoyed that you are rambling on. The number of songs also depends on how many minutes, hours, etc you need to fill. You do want to be sure you have a mixture of both uptempo songs and some ballads so that if you need to sing for more than a few minutes, you don't wind up being monotonous. Really it's great that you write your own songs! It's a gift and make sure you don't neglect it. Take as many music related classes as you can, especially music theory. The more you know about music, the more ideas you will be able to flesh out into a real song.
