How to put out oil fires?

ok so last night i was making popcorn, i put the oil in and waited. i went to go check on my brothers (my parents wernt home) and once i got back upstairs i found the pan smoking, i lifted up the lid and flames came out. i panked and filled up a pot with water and pored it into the pan (yes i know, i wasnt supposed to do that) but the flames got higher and then went down.so now im wondering if this ever happens agien what do i do, i saw that you put a damp wash cloth on it but this pan you can only get off half of the top and its like 6 inches deep

Answer:

Use Lighter fluid. It is what is most often used to remove the price stickers people place in books on the fly leaf page. Dab a bit onto a cloth in this case, and rub it off. Depending on how much residue is there you may have to apply more to the cloth. Finger nail polish remover also works. So do other chemicals like these. These mentioned chemicals are used to remove the price sticker often placed in a book because they dry and leave no stain or smell. they evaporate. If the chemicals cause the detector to go sound, turn it off/remove battery, etc.. and then use the remover. Good luck.
Ohhh so were talking about my wang all of the sudden now?
