Question:

How to remove glasspacks if they are welded in?

I have a '78 El Camino with really old glass packs that I'm thinking about replacing but they are welded into the aluminum dual exhaust systemI want to reuse the system but just replace the mufflersAren't mufflers usually tightened with connectors not welded right into the system?

Answer:

Not sure if you really have aluminun exhaust pipes, because you can't weld steel to aluminum as far as I knowJust use a saws all to cut both ends and measure the pipe diameterThen buy a new mufler the same size, if its shorter thats ok buy an adaptor at the parts house that slips over both the car and the new muff pipe and use u clamps(may also fit inside diaof either muff or car ) Its actually pretty easy to do, parts houses carry all sorts of adaptors for this.
