Question:

how to remve strongodor of cat urine from rug in spite of repeated washings?

cannot stop cat from urinating on rug. i keep washing and nothing helps . the smell is driving me crazy

Answer:

You need to clean the area with an enzyme cleaner! I washed and washed my lounge where my cat peed and couldnt get the smell out (i really felt like crying it was so embarassing). I went and bought an enzyme cleaner from a pet store and used it every second day for a week...and the smell is gone. It also stops the cat going back to the same spot to urinate. The enzyme helps break up what is in the cat pee and kills the smell!! Good Luck!
Is it a female or a male cat? There are lots of variables in why a cat will do this. Sometimes it's because the litterbox is objectionable in some way - either the location, the cleanliness of it, the litter, etc. Quite often when a cat goes somewhere besides the litterbox, it's because it is either unhappy about something, or is ill. Urinary tract infections occur often and cats will begin to go somewhere that will draw your attention to it. Perhaps he/she is sick? My male cat started doing the same thing to the throw rug I kept in front of the door. Eventually, we discovered he had a bladder problem which made it difficult for him to go at all. Once the problem had cleared up (he had to have surgery), he started using the box again. As for the smell, it is hard to get rid of. You can get a rug treatment and apply it, or take up the rug/get rid of it. If the cat is going on the rug because something is wrong, it will probably happen somewhere else until the problem is solved.
Buy pet stain and odor remover with live enzymes in it. Put it on the rug and leave it wet for how long it says on the bottle. The enzymes eat the urine and the smell will go away. You may have to do it more than once, but usually it works the first time.
I use Renuzit Super Odour Neutralizer. It has a light scent that covers up the odour for awhile and when it fades the stink is gone. Absolutely love it. If the rug is washer/dryer safe. Spray liberally before you start the dryer cycle. works even better.
so some distance as getting rid of the scent, sturdy success!! in keeping with risk try something like Odo-ban. Alot of daycares use it. The cat prolly keeps urinating on the rug because of the fact it smells the place it has went formerly, the reason cats use muddle bins. bite the rug, in case you get a clean one, take care of any 'injuries' at present with windex or different ammonia cleansing products to dissuade the cat from persevering with the habit.
