May be different on a newer vehicle, but on my 240sx I just took the wheel off, unbolted the brake caliper, and took the brake rotor off. then sprayed some PB Blaster from autozone on it and let it soak for 10 minutes or so. Then I got a mini-sledge hammer and beat the stud back out of the hub.
Either way 2 wheel drive or 4x4 the hub and rotor has to be removed then unbolted to knock out those studs. That means the wheel bearing axle nut has to be taken off and readjusted and on 4x4 the drive hub also has to be dealt with. You can safely drive on 5 wheel nuts a while. So if there is a reason to do brake job or repack the wheel bearings do any damaged studs then.
