Question:

HTPC and digital cable?

i recently build a new pc for my personal use and now i have another pc (with great specs 2gb ram 3.0ghz and 500gb laying around collecting dust) so i thought of making it a HTPC no sure weather to use Vista or Linux MCE but nay ways i have a DVD player BluRay player PS3 and a comcast digital cable box. so is there any way i can control the cable box with the pc, i mean i can't get the digital channels on my pc just the basic ones

Answer:

You can get cable channels on your pc if you get a tuner card. You can split the coax cable so it goes to your tv and your computer. You can also use your computer as a DVR this way. You will also be able to get digital cable channels if your cable provider doesn't encrypt their digital signal. Just be sure to look for a tuner card that supports clearQAM. Some of these cards also come with remotes and some with DVR software.
You need a USB-UIRT to control the cable box. Most DVR packages will support it.
