Question:

I accidentally put windshield wiper fluid where my brake fluid goes?

I just got a new jeep recently and stupidly not thinking I assumed the windshield wiper fluid would go in the same area as my old jeep.I didn‘t know this was on the new jeep where the break fluid goes. So I put in like a tablespoon of windshield wiper then realized it wasn‘t taking the fluid so I stopped since the fluid was just sitting in there not draining into the jug. I then still not realizing this is where brake fluid goes.washed it out with waterand then once I realized everything I took a turkey baster and sucked it all out of there.the what was now water since I washed out the windshield wiper fluid was just sitting at the top still.so sucked it all out with the baster. Is this going to effect my brakes? .such a shitty day

Answer:

Well water is heavier than oil so some water/windshield fluid may be in your brake fluid.having said that, if you sucked out everything that was in your brake fluid holder I would just fill it up to the full line and see how things work. I would expect your breaks will be fine. But you need to schedule some time with a mechanic who knows his trade to get your brake lines bleed.
:Yes it will affect your brakes. Any contaminates in brake fluid will change its boiling point. Do not drive it until you can have the brake system flushed.
