I am building a large house on a hill in Texas. Do I need lightning protection?

Lightning Rods? Or is it a waste of money?

Any specific kind of radiation? Microwaves, radio waves, light, infrared (heat) are all electromagnetic radiation. Most smoke detectors emit alpha radiation. Propane lantern mantles used to also emit alpha radiation, but they've changed the formulation.
well generally speaking newer houses are still grounded but through the panel/fuse box. back in the day people and builders feared a lightning strike(especially out in the open country) so there for tried to plan for it by trying to direct exactly where the bolt will strike; which would be the highest point of the house, so they placed metal rods to direct the intense voltage/amperes into the ground thus saving the house from a fiery death. but by today's standards grounding a house is still a safety standard but instead of encouraging lighting to strike a house by means of a lightning rod(which proved to be dangerous) today's builders altogether try to avoid a lightning strike by simply building the houses so they don't encourage a build up of a strong enough charge to have lightning hit. that's why the lightning rod is no more because its sole purpose was to be a target for lightning. so today it would be a double standard to build a house designed to discourage electrical charges and then put a target on the house for lightning Lightning is simply a static shock on super steroids. just like when you get zapped touching a door knob. just magnified on such a large scale to the point humans can't measure/replicate the power of a bolt! Lightning/static has nothing to do with AC/DC voltage which is used to run your house, machines, cars, commercial building etc.
