Question:

I Cross threaded the axle?

My friends are telling me to get a new hub but can‘t I just get a new axle? is there anything wrong with just replacing the axle? I ride 700 wheels things on a fixed gear.

Answer:

NO need to get a new hub, just the axel and the axel nuts. I would use this opportunity to replace the cones, the lock-nuts and the balls. That will make a difference on how the wheel rolls. If your hub is an old model with a freewheel and a cluster, them it will be worth it to update it to a freehub and cassette but that will imply getting a whole new wheel, not just the hub.
No matter how many times you ask this question you need a new axle and axle nuts.
It's a lot cheaper and easier to replace the axle. If you can, unthread the axle nuts and remove the axle as you normally would. If you can't get the axle nuts off (if the cross-threading is really bad), you'll have to cut the axle off. Cut the axle between the hub locknuts and the axle nuts, and then remove the axle as you would normally.
