Question:

I feel stupid, but I just moved to college and I miss my cats so much I can't stand it. Help!?

Literally, I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I'd miss my parents, but they're just a text or a phone call away. I have two cats, but one that has always been mine. I love her with all of my heart. My parents tell me that every time she hears a door open she comes to see if I'm home, and then cries when she sees that I'm not. She won't go into my bedroom and just seems depressed.I can't handle it!

Answer:

The potential problem is that if the flame goes out for some reason the gas will keep filling the room - any spark will ignite the gas and you and your house will blow up along with many of your neighbors! You may not know as you may pass out before the explosion. Additionally with even regular furnaces are not 100% efficient. Any unburnt gas goes out the chimney to keep you safe. With an oven the unburnt gas fills your house. I would suggest you read your owners manual before you try to heat your house again. Many years ago ( more than 60 years ) Sears had an oven that had a separate heater on the side but it had some safety devices built in for this purpose. Those Kerosene heaters are designed different for heating your home more safely.
When I lived in Chicago, we had these sucky radiators you couldn't turn off because they were all connected. I turned them off anyway and used my electric stove to heat my studio apt. I did that all winter with no problem. Yours is gas however, and I wouldn't do that with a gas stove! Just too risky in my opinion. I know poor people do it though. :(
From your question it sounds as though you have broken the external fascia glass. The external glass serves a number of purposes: 1. It helps retain heat in the oven, allowing it to get to the correct temperature faster, and then allowing for less energy to be used to maintain the correct temperature. 2. It is a decorative panel 3. The outer fascia glass provides a cooler to the touch surface, should you inadvertently brush up against the oven - or should a child touch it. Without the panel, not only is the risk of a serious burn, particularly if the oven is within reach of a child in the house, very much increased, but the extra heat escaping may cause damage to surrounding furniture, or the controls of the oven. It is usually possible to buy a replacement glass panel from the oven manufacturer. The glass fascia panels are normally held in place by small metal (sometimes plastic) brackets that are glued to the inside of the panel using special, heat resistant adhesive
