I think the thermal coupler needs replacing. Someone replaced it for me 5-6 yrs ago need to do it myself now. Please help

I think it depends on whether it is an alarm for the whole building or just a single apartment. If it is an apartment-wide alarm, get out and wait until you are allowed back in. If the alarm is sounding in an apartment, I usually go knock. That way you can make sure everything is alright.
Get out of the building and a safe distance away until it is deemed safe to re-enter.
