The wipers almost always turn on for between a few seconds and a few minutes whenever I use my turn signal (they are on the same lever) and they sometimes turn on randomly without turning. I have no control over it. They turn off whenever it feels like it.Its been doing it for about a year now, and I just can‘t handle how annoying it is any more. Faulty wiring in that lever? If so, can I replace the lever myself or do I need to take it to a shop?
I can't wait to see your answers, my 2000 ranger did the exact same thing up until I got rid of it.
The wiper switch is the most likely culprit here. They were common problems on all Ford vehicles. You can replace the switch yourself if you want to it just takes some torx bits to remove the screws from the steering column. The trim around the steering column below the steering wheel needs to be removed to access the switch. If you have a tilt steering wheel you have to remove the lever, it can be difficult to remove though. There should be two electrical connections that need to be disconnected to remove the switch. Its an easy job if you have all the tools needed and consult a shop manual. When ordering the part it may also be referred to as a multi-function switch.
HAHAHAHAHHAHA!! Thats me!!!! :-) I can change the oil in my car in about 15 minutes, but I have SUCH a problem with those snap on windshield wiper blades! I don't know why it's SO frustrating! I have to get help from my little brother it's embarrassing! :-) ** how did you know of my shame!
