Should I insulate the roof of the attic? I live in Mass, and the attic is already cold up there, but I have not noticed any cold drafts yet in the living spaceI looked it up online, and I have not found anything specific that tells me I should insulate this areaI just bought the house and this will be the first winter for me in it.
some shrooms can be poisonous so watch outbut i might.
Insulation only works when there is a source for heat or coldnessIn other words you could insulated between your roof rafters in your attic, but there is no heat source in your attic so it would not do any goodThe only thing it would do is slow down the time it takes for your attic to absorb heat through the shingles, the same in cold weather- but once this short delay is over it would be just as cold/hot in your attic as it was outsideLets say you build a shed outside 10' x10' and insulate it allThe next morning if it's 10 below outside, your shed is 10 below inside alsoNow if you put an electric heater out in the shed, that is differentThe insulation would hold most of the heat inside the shed, you will loose some because insulation cannot stop heat/cold escape 100 percent, it just makes it more difficult for heat/cold to escape.
