Question:

I have a &wired& smoke detector. Is there any harm in disconnecting it?

It was beeping and I looked into the container on the ceiling and found it had no battery needing replacement. I just let it drop a couple inches and it finally stopped beeping. What do I need to do to put it back? (and hope it does not beep again unless we have smoke from a fire going on).

Any time you are dealing with the mysteries of the brain you must be prepared for more questions than answers. The field of neurology and the study of the brain are relatively new to the world of western medicine and often times there are fewer hard and fast rules and benchmarks than we'd like there to be. Insofar as your patient is concerned, the sudden urge to be nude exists in patients with frontal lobe damage because the frontal lobe is the house of reason. When this part of the brain is damaged in any way, so is the sense of what is proper and what perhaps isn't. Simply by virtue of your relative questioning whether or not she must worry about following suit to her birthday suit, leads me to believe that she has more of a handle on her impulses than others may. The business of getting undressed in the middle of the night may simply be a question of comfort. If she is undressing alone, let her. If she is becoming a nuisance, that is a different story. Try asking her what she is doing and why, if she can answer you clearly and concisely, accept her answer and leave it at that. If she becomes confused and flustered, talk to her doctor. Hope this helps.
