Question:

I have some urgent questions about ceramic braces?

I am getting ceramic braces put on next Monday, and I‘ve heard such horror stories about braces and I want to know it they‘re true.If the doctor says I need them for two years, and I do everything I‘m supposed to do, will I get them off in two years? People have been telling me they‘ve had theirs on for 4 years instead of 2Are ceramic braces that noticeable? Will they make my mouth look any different when my lips are closed? I really want to know! I don‘t want everyone to be staring.Do they stain easily?Thank you!

Answer:

I have never heard anyone to keep braces for more than 2 years but if your age is more than 35 then it may take time. And they dont stain and you ll fine dont worry
Metal is better than ceramic. Ceramic does not stay on as well and they can fracture , but the worst is that they look so yellow over time. I would think you would want people to KNOW that you have braces instead of THINKING your teeth are dingy yellowlol.ya know? Metal is stronger and cheaper. If they are staying on better (holding the bond as metal does better) then you are not having brackets pop off, hence delaying treatment. Nowadays treatment is fast. 2 yrs. is the norm. Don't listen to the horror stories. And your lips will adjust to them (either kind) quickly. At first it feels that your lips don't close normally, but they adjust to be normal. Good Luck
