Question:

I think my cat was taken away from his mother too soonWhat can I do?

We found my kitten a few months ago and I think he was taken away from his mother way too soonHe's a blanket sucker and licks everythingI think this would be normal if he was still a kittenIs there anything I can do to help him break these habits or is he pretty much going to be like that for the rest of his life?

Answer:

It definitely sounds like your cat was weaned too earlyHe is reacting based on instinct I had a cat who was also weaned too soonHer mother was feral and gave birth in our neighbor's carportHe threatened to drown the kittens if they weren't gone in a week, so we rescued one at about 5 weeks of ageShe was always a little off and not very friendly, but I think that was because she was born feralHowever, she would suck on the furry bathroom rug for hours just kneading and purring like crazy! It was almost like she went into a trance! She seemed happy and content, so we let her do itThe rug looked awful, but the cat loved it! For that matter so did the dog who would take it outside and throw it around! :) Just make sure he can't ingest fibers or strings from the blanket he's sucking onHe may outgrow it, but our cat didn't stop until her senior years.
Ok, I could be wrong here, totallyBut the only word that comes to mind would be mekhane, its etymology is ionic greek, and it means machineI think that might be itGood luck.
