OK OK so dont give me hell about owning this bikeI have a Schwinn Prelude from TargetI am now seeing that the wheels/ rims are a problemThey are constantly popping the inner tubeI can't afford (right now) the bike I really want (a 650 Felt), so I was thinking about buying new wheelsI need to find quality wheel set for cheep, like 100 bucks or lessI would like to buy new wheels so I can ride for now and save for a new bike laterOr if I cant find wheels what about the rim tape? Can I double or triple the amount of tape on the rim to protect against popping the innertubeAll I did today was take my bike from the trainer inside to the garage to inflate the tires, left home and came back and the tires were blown outOr if there is something else I can do please suggest.

Steel rims are the cheapest and heaviest available, aluminum is better, and composite it the toughest/most expensiveAre your spokes digging into your tubes? Either new rim strips or 3 to 4 layers of electrical tape will care of thatAre the sides of your tube getting pinch-cut by the rim? To keep your tube from getting pinched between the rim and a curb, you need enough air pressure to keep the rim off the roadIf you are heavy, you can usually get away with about 10% higher air pressure than the maximum on the tire sidewallThe ride will be rougher, but the rolling resisitance will be lowerIf you are getting flats from road hazards, then those puncture proof plastic strips you put between the tire tread and tube will do the job.
