Question:

Windshield Wipers Maintenance.?

I was told to clean the windshield wipers with a cotton alcohol, and that it would eliminate the water-streaks on the windshield as they are operating.I have done this, and they‘re still leaving continous streaks as they go back and forth.I can change them, but I hate doing that I can never get it right! Is there some other home-made remedy for a sure-fix?

Answer:

Try adding a good quality windshield liquid cleaner and it should eliminate the streaks. Otherwise, you should change your windshield wiper. The auto dealership does recommend changing the wipers every year.
The streaking is caused by dirt, grease, oil. on the windshield. This comes from the cars in front of you and the sky. Clean the window with Coca-Cola!. Just pour it on and scrub the glass with a paper towel. Be sure to rinse the mess off the window and all the metal surfaces of the car with a hose. Pepsi, RC and other colas don't work. The wiper blades should be cleaned every time you wash the car. Alcohol is okay, but windex and a paper towel work fine. Your blades should last for years. Remember, auto dealers, auto parts stores and wiper manufacturers sell wiper blades. They want to sell their product. Be smart.
Most cars have a tensioner spring on the arm that you can adjust how tightly you want the wipers pressed onto your windshield. Your car manual should have info on this if so equipped. If not, have you tried applying Rain-X to windshield? Might help. Good luck.
