Question:

I used Vermiculite instead of Perlite, is that ok?

So about 3 weeks ago I planted some teeny tiny Venus Fly Trap seeds, but instead of getting Perlite for them I bought Vermiculite and planted them in that. They're not growing, and I've had them in indirect sunlight all day since I planted them. And I water the peat moss soil every other day with just one spray. Is the vermiculite keeping them from growing?

Answer:

Yes, an egg can die the day after it was layed. The female lays eggs in a three month period. My leopard gecko laid one and 2 weeks later another one, and may have more on the way. Vermiculite is better than moss because you can leave it in that and put it straight into the incubator. When the egg starts to deflate it is probably going to die, thats what happened to mine.

Yes. About 3-4 weeks I prefer to have damp moss in their laybox....just to reduce any risk of the Leo ingesting the vermiculite. I then incubate the eggs in perlite or vermiculite. Often, eggs will begin to have a slightly deflated look right before hatching.
