Alright, but what's the question? I define Metal as heavy on guitar or drums, has a lot of screams (although some alternative metal has far more singing) and with generally angsty or angry lyrics. Does that answer your question?
Metal has alot of subgenres and divisions. Basically, the bands you listen as metal are either death or black metal, or some other kind of extreme-something.or-other-metal. Bullet for my Valentine is supposedly some kind of emo-screamo shite (wouldn't know for sure, haven't really hear any of their stuff). Green Day is sure as **** not any kind of metal.
Technically Satyricon, Decide, Gorgoroth, Impaled Nazarene and Behemoth are all Black Metal bands. Dimmu Borgir is symphonic black metal. and also I think it is disgusting to even mention Green day and metal in the same sentence (that goes for Bullet for my Valentine too) -shudders-
The term metal is a comprehensive term. It used to be defined by bands like Warrant and Ratt. Like nearly every element of our world, the genre has evolved.
