Question:

If I get an air bag suspension system will I still need springs?

Yes, it‘s true, The T knows nothing about cars. Help me out a little, please?

Answer:

Why on earth would you want a pure air suspension? It can be done and is being done today without conventional springs. Cadillacs have pure air suspensions, older Lincoln Mark 8's have them front and rear too without conventional springs. But with air suspensions you have to get actuators, air compressor, control modules, and air lines. Not to mention most cars made today dont have room for any extras under the hood. Waste of time if you ask me. If you are getting airbags to help carry the load of a work truck or something then go ahead and do it, but dont mess with it just because it sounds cool. It's more trouble than its worth. You're buddys wont help you pay the thousands of dollars its gonna cost you to install and repair this system over the years, you will. Stick to springs. No-an airbag is also called an air spring-if you place springs and airbags together, the springs will hold the weight of the car,and void the whole porpose of the airbags.you wont even know it has bags on it-Be sure to get a good, high quality suspension kit-more at first, but saves in failures/repairs due to crappy parts to start with.
air ride inside the rear spring for lift? or air for low rider look when stopped? Air suspension will give you the low down with out extra metal springs. There are several cheaper alternatives. just cut the stock springs and see if the look is what you want depending on the car and suspension you might stop there. But most of us have found that if we air up the air ride the car can pass as a normal car and not ride quality is not to bad.
