Answer:

I would talk to your 4-H leader and other experienced people who have shown at this level to see what is being used in the ring currently. If possible, try to watch a show at the level you are wanting to attend, or if that isn't possible, study photos from last year's 4-H shows, so you can see for yourself the popular colors and styles. Also, try Hobby Horse's website. They have a color wheel, and also a place where it shows the expected show clothing for different Western levels (4-H verses Open shows verses Breed shows) which is useful even if you don't use their brand of clothing. For Western halter you will need 1)cowboy hat properly shaped to fit your face 2)long sleeved shirt with a proper collar (either a traditional western collar or a high necked collar such as a slinky) 3)You may want a matching vest or better yet a matching blaeser. 4)Dress pants to match your shirt (Blue jeans are probably allowed but not as good as dress pants) Make sure they're long enough. 5)Clean riding boots such as cowboy boots or ropers. For any Western riding events you will use the clothing I mentioned above and the a pair of matching chaps is also popular but probably not required. You may use spurs in riding, not in halter. Make sure your hat will stay on your head when you move. For English halter and English pleasure you will need 1)riding helmet that is safety approved, check to see if you need a harness at all times, or not. A shiney schooling helmet is allowed but a velvet one looks more show like 2)Long sleeved, button up English shirt 3)English jacket in a dark, preferably solid color that fits you properly 4)Breeches in creamy/green/khahi color 5)riding boots, preferably high boots but may get away with low riding boots. Saddle seat and dressage use slightly different versions of the English pleasure clothing, and since I don't compete there I don't want to give you advice. Good luck. I think your best advice is from someone who has shown at that level in the past.
If you are going to get different riding apparel for all of those and all different riding gear, you will spend thousands of dollars. For 4-H, you can stick with tan breeches, and all purpose saddle, and a nice polo for English.
Most will tell you that you need both a photoelectric and and ionization type. One will detect a hot burning fire and the other will detect a smoldering fire. First alert and Kidde are both top brands. As for the CO detector I haven't seen any in combination with the smoke detectors. Will a gas appliance though it is a good idea to have one. Search smoke detector reviews.
It has a pretty good wardrobe assist guideline section. But the best advise is ask the participants at the level you are showing. It's a HUGE difference from show to show and organization to organization
