Don't skimp on safety stuff. Think about falling, what happens, you put your hands out in front. Skin graphs suck. make sure to have gloves that fit right, and have a wrist strap to hold them on your hands. I track ride with Helds expensive I know, but I like using my hands.
Put a good chain lock on the inside, They probably are searching your room when your away , Not fair but they own the home. Unless you draw up a rental agreement that spells out your right to keep out trespassers they have every right to do as they please. Save up fast or find a room mate at school to relocate.

Look in the gardening section of somewhere like Wall Mart or Ace Hardware, same gloves you get in a MC shop, colors and all, for about a quarter the price, around 10 to 20 dollars, that's where I always get mine.
