Question:

if you sleep too near a fire, can you cook yourself? Can it start cancer?

If I sleep too close to a small fire, that feels warm but not uncomfortable, but you sleep in that position all night. Say, about a meter away. Can you start to cook? And can that damage cells and produce cancer?

I have bred, my mother has bred and now stands her own stallion. It sounds like you've put some thought into this and though I'm a bit against back yard breeders it sounds like you are well prepared. Be sure to get a breeding contract that spells out what you will get - live foal guarantee? Also, what the keep of your mare will be and how she'll be bred, handled and vetted without you there. You said the payment and pricing negotiations are all spelled out. Do you know what would spell out a bad experience for you? I've heard lots of bad ones, but if you and the breeder have discussed all aspects fo the breeding contract you should be oK. Just be sure he's of the stock that will make a good crop for whatever you expect to take part in - and even though you don't intend to sell, breed with value in mind because you don't know waht the future might bring - you might be in an accident or something that causes the foal to be sold - you want to give it the best advantage you can - in addition, it costs just as much to feed and raise a grade horse as it does a valuable registered one - maybe a little more to breed, but the rest of the costs are the same. It's hard to say what color the foal will come out, hope you'll share pics with all of us. I bred a bay TB mare to a grulla dun FQH stud. I got the most awesome buckskin filly. Bred the same mare to a paint tobiano stud - got a exceptional bay mare and a tobiano bay mare - both awesome. Good luck!
