Question:

Import Exhaust Systems?

I have a 2008 civic coupe that i wanted to add a custom exhaust to. I just bought a Apexi N1 Universal muffler because i am worried about Massachusetts Laws against noise polution or discrimination towards loud imports. Anyways, Would the Apexi N1 Catback system have been better than the universal muffler being taken to the shop and having a 2 1/4 custom pipe installed from the Cat back? I‘d say it would be no different, right? Another question, How much different would the 2 1/4 pipe make from the cat back rather than leaving the stock pipe in and just adding the N1 Muffler?I would add a high flow cat but im afraid it wont pass emissions?I would also add a Header but im afraid that wont pass emissions?Doing a complete custom exhaust system would cause nothing but problems with emissions and the police, right?I want to do it up but i want to know what would be the best setup that I could get away with and still pass emissions. Can anyone Help?

Answer:

At most exhaust shops the Crush bend the pipe which is no good, it creates disturbances in the exhaust flow, where as a full apexi N1 is mandrel bent, and is MUCH better. you can add a high flow cat, and a header and still pass emissions, I'm from california, and emissions laws here are incredibly strict, and I can use a high flow cat/header/full exhaust on my del sol, and have it still be legal. If you really want to be overly specific about it get a DC Header, they make carb legal headers, as said high flow cats will pass fine, and anything after the cat is legal in terms of restrictions ie: resonators / no resonators, or any muffler at all. The only law for an exhaust (past cat) are sound laws. to which you can just get a silencer for it at be fine.
it all depends on how they bend the piping, a mandrel bender would be best but ive never seen a muffler shop with one they usually have those machines that just stretch the piping which shrinks the piping at bends which would make it worse than a real catback system, and as long as the high flow cat, headers, and whatever else u get is CARB legal it should be street legal and you can take the cops to court if u ever get a ticket for it, although all that stuff WILL make your car alot louder which in turn will get you hassled by the cops and theyll be ***** and give you tickets haha and apexi n1's are pretty loud
First off there is no such thing as cruiser tires and sports tires, the only thing that matters is they fit: ie they are same dimensions as the ones you took off, for example I recall the rear in the Ninja 250 being 130/90-16, as long as the one you replaced it with is the same it will be fine, if the person who put them on is complaining its probably because you didn't buy them from him which means he makes less money and he wouldn't like that so he was probably trying to get you to buy them off him, Basically as long as they are the same dimensions/specs as standard it will be fine, Again there is no such things as cruiser tires and sports tires, there are tires that are better suited to cruisers and tires that are better suited to sports bikes but tires are not built for one type of bike or another.
Unless you plan to do some knee dragging and riding way over your head I see no reason why these tires would be a problem, Of course the person installing them was upset, he lost out on his mark up money, ride sane and these tires will last as long or longer then a set of high end Metzeler or Pirelli's, I've used the Kenda's on some of my beater bikes, for the race track I have a Maxxis sponcership
No,not if you just riding normal and not aggressive sport tires are a waste if you just easing around. sport tires have more grip for aggressive ridding but because of there soft compound would wear quicker that a harder less grip touring tire that is built for mileage .
