Question:

Iron deficiency?

I seem to always be low in iron when I have lab work done. What kinds of food are good in Iron?

Answer:

good sources of iron: turkey, beef. Eating lots of fruits and vegetalbes enhance the iron absorption in your body too. Yeah and beware red wine, coffee, tea are all iron absorption inhibitors so dont take too much of those. Spinach is a real good source of iron, but it is also a iron absorption inhibitor so make sure you eat it with iron absorption promoters like vegetables, meat, fish and fruits. Good luck with that!
Spinach, silverbeet (easy to grow and highly productive - fertilise with Iron Chelate!), but both should be taken with a couple of teaspoons of balsamic or cider vinegar, or lemon juice, to aid absorption. Broccoli is one of the superfoods, and a good source. Liver is the highest of all, followed by red meat. Avoid any dairy products within a few hours of eating the above: calcium can interfere with the uptake of iron.
Iron deficiency (or sideropenia) is the most common known form of nutritional deficiency.Iron deficiency can have serious health consequences that diet may not be able to quickly correct, and iron supplementation is often necessary if the iron deficiency has become symptomatic. However, mild iron deficiency can be corrected, and prevented, by eating iron-rich foods. Because iron is an absolute requirement for most of the earth's plants and animals, a wide range of food can provide iron. However, these foods are absorbed and processed differently by the body.Because iron from plant sources is less easily absorbed than the heme-bound iron of animal sources, vegetarians and vegans should have a somewhat higher total daily iron intake than those who eat meat, fish or poultry.Legumes and dark-green leafy vegetables like spinach are especially good sources of iron for vegetarians and vegans. Iron from nonheme sources is more readily absorbed if consumed with foods that contain either heme-bound iron or vitamin C.
