It's like asking Angel Witch vs Kreator. You cannot really compare those bands in terms of who is better. Iron Maiden is traditional/NWOBHM while Metallica is thrash metal (later heavy/hard rock). Both bands are really good musicians in their own genre. I think that Iron Maiden could be better because they made a bigger influence on the whole of heavy and thrash metal, including bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Desstruction, Slayer and many many more. I don't think Metallica copied Iron Maiden, because their music sounds very different. Metallica got influenced by Venom, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head etc. You cannot really say they copied Maiden because you can see a lot of Venom influence in their music as well. Iron Maiden because Bruce Dickinson is a better singer and frontman than James Hetfield and they have a better live show too. Yes Metallica did copy Iron Maiden. You can hear it on the song 'ride the the lightning' in the intro. Number one Iron Maiden song is 'Quest For Fire' while the number one metallica song is 'Jump In The Fire' because Mustaine wrote it and he wrote all of the good Metallica songs anyway. The rest of Metallica are pretty substandard songwriters.
