Actually, the clicking sound is the still active alarm's controller(relay). I think you may have only unplugged the alarm's horn. In many cases,the indicators too would be flashing continuously Usually, the alarm has a manual switch located somewhere near the steering wheel on the underside of the dashboard. Look for a small switch. Flicking the switch could switch it off. You should be able to start the car. The manual switch is present in most alarm systems fitted more than 5 years ago. It is quite often hidden and is small. If you cannot locate it, you could still disable the alarm if you can locate the live wire feed to the alarm. Removing it may work. I think the immobilizer has finally worked and caused your engine to shut off. Usually the immobilizer works within ten minutes. Most often, it cuts the electrical feed to your ignition coil. If you are good at tracing wires, do check your connections to and from the ignition coil. Most older alarms are linked to the coil to cut off feed to the coil. So tracing the wires here could locate the wires that need to be reconnected. Car alarms are meant to stop a car being driven off, and looks like yours took sometime to do what it was meant to do!
