im changing the tires on my ninja 250. dont have the tools to balance it and i dont want to over pay a guy to do something so simple. what could happen if i dont balance it
Balancing a tire is not that important below 50 mph. Above 50 mph the vibration will cause the tire to wear unevenly and can cause loss of control if it is severe enough. You can balance a tire yourself. Just put a tire on an artifitial axle. Turn the tire. When it stops mark the top with a line of chalk. Turn it again. If it stops 3 times in the exact same spot then you need to apply weight to that mark. Add a little bit of weight. Then, do the process again. If it again stops in the same spot 3 times add some more weight. It is not as exact as the computer generated machines the dealers use. But, it will get it close enough to stop uneven wear. If you will be doing speeds in excess of 80mph pay the extra to have it balanced right.
Call first before you go and ask how much.
the only sure way is to phone around a few motor factors save yourself a lot of leg work
Balancing Motorcycle Tires
Bouncy bouncy, cup the tires. I did a static balance on my tire to within 1/8 ounce. No tools, no effort.
