Most state require that second hand beds be sterilized, and retagged with a red state bedding law tag indicating it is used and sterilized.

The salesman where I bought my bed told me it is illegal in California to sell a used bed or accept a used bed for a homeless shelter, etc. Something about transferring disease. Even cleaned beds are illegal. Makes you wonder about the hotel beds we sleep on!
