Question:

Is it normal to have a gas smell near a gas furnace?

We have been in our house for 2 1/2 months. Prior to moving in, we had a diagnostic test run on the furnace. The test came out ok except that the flue fan had to be replaced. I have smelled a slight gas smell on occasion when opening the furnace closet, especially right before the furnace kicks on. We have a carbon monoxide/explosive gas detector plugged in about five feet from the furnace. It has never gone off. Still, I had the gas company check and they said it was ok too. Should I still be concerned? Today I actually smelled the gas through our vents upstairs and, subsequently, when I opened the furnace closet not long before the furnace kicked on.

Answer:

Dogs will join in when other dogs are howling just as their wild ancestors did while hunting in packs. The pitch of certain man-made noises can stimulate the howling. It's a natural reaction. Humans have natural reactions to sounds also. A woman will react to the sound of a baby crying with physical agitation (increased respiration, pupil dilation, muscle tension).
What you are seeing is a hose clamp. These are used to stop the flow of water on a hose line. Typical uses would be if hose needs to be added or in the event of a section of hose being damaged or ruptured. Each standard section is 50 feet so they typically would put the clamp on the section nearest the damaged section. I have heard of engineers clamping a supply line at the truck so the fireman at that hydrant could charge the hydrant and get water flowing in the hose while the engineer is still hooking his end into the pump intakes but I've never seen anyone actually do it. Another thing you may have seen is a bag or pouch that is attached to the first section that would come off of a hydrant. This usually has a hydrant wrench and hose wrenches as well as possibly adapters that might be needed. Good luck and hope this helps.
if you dont want to spend alot of money get some tape and stick and rip that should work
