Question:

Is it safe to drink off of a ceramic cup if coated with acrylic coating (CRAFTS)?

Making some decorated Christmas gifts. They are coffee mugs with acrylic paint (water based). I would like to make the paint permanent, so they don‘t wash off when cleaned. Coating is recommended for ceramic; but DOES NOT say anything about whether it is safe to eat/drink of off. * Bought Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating 1303. Only warnings include: use in well ventilated areas, do not inhale. ETC Thank you for reading

Not that I am aware of and besides, you could end up using a coating that reacts with the clay. I've seen that before. Better to choose a more decorative use of the clay. Don't forget, fire and polymer clay do not go well together either. Taking too much of a risk.
None of the things you're likely to buy, and use yourself, will be *totally* safe for actual contact with lips/etc, or for wet foods. And most won't be totally-non-removable on ceramic surfaces (or any vey smooth surface) though some glass paints or special paints for ceramics might be. Acrylic finishes/sprays/sealers/etc are in the same family as acrylic paints btw. All of those *are* permanent once they're dry. But they do need a surface they can sink into or can come off of slick surfaces with soaking or with much stress --well, unless perhaps the paint/sealer forms a *mechanical* hold as well as a (weak) adhesive hold by going *all the way around* the mug, etc--but all could still loosen if soaked. If you want something like a ceramic greenware cup you can totally personalize, is safe to use around the lips or food/drink parts, and will stay on (even in the dishwasher usually), you'll need to use a ceramic clay and special colorants, then heat in a high-temp kiln (various clay shops do that). Or there *may* be melamine plastic cups that are sold by the companies that sell plates for kids to decorate that should work, but you generally need to send those back to the company for putting on since you won't have the equipment necessary.
