MY friend, being the db that he is thinks metallica is not metal. He thinks they are just heavy rock. Screamo is more closely associated with Punk than with Metal (it evolved out of Hardcore Punk).
Honestly Screamo to me was hardcore punk or punk with the lead screaming at the top of his or her voice which sounds pretty cool and I like that. Now I've seen screamo question in RP listing super lame bands which blew my mind because thats not punk to begin with nor is it metal, its that mainstream crap thats played on MTV. I don't agree with your interpretation of what screamo is but I did like the answer from Higginsdawiggins, your right is just a bunch of bullsh*t... I know what I like and that is hc punk rock...
Well think of it like a tree... there are the main genre branches and then there are other genres that branch off from it. so yes you are right but also at the same time your wrong. It all depends how you look at it. Not that I am an expert, ha, far from it. Screamo in particular branched off mainly from hardcore punk if I am not mistaken, Thrash is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal that is characterized by its fast tempo and aggression. Power metal is a style of heavy metal music combining characteristics of traditional metal with thrash metal or speed metal. Black metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal. It often employs fast tempos, shrieked vocals, highly distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, double-kick drumming, and unconventional song structure.
Screamo is post-hardcore punk in which the singer would just scream. Thrash Metal (best example being Slayer) is a fusion of hardcore punk with metal so it makes sense that they sound similar
