Rust is a mixture of many iron oxides and iron hydroxides, as there are several varieties. We think of rust as being primarily Fe2O3, and yes it is ferromagnetic, and used in magnetic media storage applications. One variety of iron oxide, called lodestone, is magnetic and was one of the first materials observed to have this property.
