Here is my personal experience. I have worn glasses since I was around two years old, and I am a grandmother now. I have never scratched a lens, even the high index plastic ones until I got the anti-reflection coating. I am careful how I clean them, and never use paper products nor any sort of cleaner, only soft lens cloth and similar. The coating now looks like filigree on the surface. Fortunately I am due for a new pair this year. I really couldn't tell a lot of difference in the glare factor anyway.. I will *never* have another pair with anti-glare. YMMV.
