Question:

Is your heating duct work in your attic?

I live in MichiganMy home is on a slab foundation so all the heating/cooling ductwork is in the attic.Though I have added extra insulation and the proper attic venting (soffit vents and ridge vent) I continue to get too much heat in the attic thus allowing snow melting into ice on the roof.If you have/had this problem and found a solution or have any ideas, I would appreciate hearing about them. Thanks

Answer:

one dayone dayyou'll run out of brain cells and you'll stop having bright ideas like this one for the pothead underme! NERD, im not hating, why the ^ will i hate on some pot head who smokes weed? get a reality check MORON! if i wanted to doWEED, i would be on it and high off my right now, and of course, having great ideas like u guys have, who obviously have a veryy pretty outlook on lifebut its okI bet it feels great to mop on your all day and live with ur parents and sleep all day in a sofa at the living roomTHATS THE LIFE!
you can smoke weed out of it, but after a few hits it'll start to meltyou should invest in a bowl, hitter, pipe, of bongwhen that metal, glass, or lastic starts to melt you start breathing in that somke and that could be dangerousplus you start to go through alot of penstrust me, a bong or a bowl will be your best friend.
dont listen to that neni there a bunch of hatersits not good to be smoking from thatthe plastic will melt and breathing in plastic is REALLY BAD get rolling paper or look on youtube at apples or water fall bongsor if your 18 just go buy a bong or glass Piece(spoon, bowl, etc.)
The duct work would certainly be the best place to startDucts can have significant leakage that would cause this problemThis especially true if you have metal ductingFinding leaks is not that bad if you have good accessTurn the system on and inspect closely wherever a joint is locatedThe leakage should be very easy to findMark the areas and turn off the systemWhen sealing do not use duct tapeBuy the clear tape that is designed for ductsIt should be in the same section as duct tapeOr use duct mastic with a mesh tape which does an even better jobDepending on your own inspection it might be wiser to go with newIt can be faster and you might get better resultsI would suggest taking off the registers and sealing the metal work with caulking as well While up in the attic inspect the areas that the register comes to the wall and look for gapsIf they are not seal use expansion foam to fill the gaps You could be experiencing the problem due to missing insulation in the attic as wellTypically the area that the snow is melting at the fastest rate on the roof is the area that is problematicIt is also possible that there is a significant leak coming from your heated conditioned space into your atticPocket doors and uninsulated multiple can lights can be an issueA disconnected bathroom exhaust fan could also be a problemA HERS Rater will have special equipment and training to inspect and test systemsOne that has a thermal imager would be even better A good HVAC contractor can also handle most of these issues as they are experts at the systems and familiar working in attic space
i concur with guitarnerd
