do you think they reset the light and didn‘t fix the problem just so they could get it off the lot. it was exactly 50 miles when it came on, and i can smell the exhaust thoguh the heater when i sit in park or at a stop sign but when i shut the heater off while stopped it cannot smell it. big problem or minor issuethank you
I think your guess is correct. A On Board Diagnostic scanner allows anyone to reset the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), also known as the check engine light , without fixing the problem. The sensors that cause the MIL to illuminate are not sensitive to exhaust systems leaks, so I think the two problems are unrelated. You may be smelling exhaust from the car in front of you, or perhaps you smell oil dripping from the engine onto the hot exhaust system. I would have someone check for engine oil leaks, The MIL can be caused by something as simple as a loose gas cap. Check that first before paying a mechanic to track down the problem. Another action you can take- go to an Auto Zone or other auto parts store. They will perform as OBD test for free, in hopes you will buy parts from them.
If the odor goes away when you turn off the heater, you are NOT smelling engine exhaust. It that were entering though the vents, it would come even with the heater off. Until someone READS the trouble codes, it is impossible to GUESS what the problem is, or how serious it is. For all we can tell, the gas cap was not properly tightened, and the computer just figured that out.
They will fit but why would you do that? It will throw of your speedometer. You will be going slower that what the speedo says!
First examine your oil.
