Low batteries. This happens in a lot in some of our rental properties. It's so annoying. You will probably need 9volts.
did you try changing the battery?
It could be the battery.It also could be the ion beam that senses smoke.Smoke detector work on a small beam that when something breaks that beam it set off the alarm.The next time it goes off,take a towel or something to wave below it and see if it goes off.If it does you probably got a dirtly lens on the detector.Get a new one.They're cheap.
My smoke detector does that when the battery's low. It's an irritating feature to get our attention so we'll change the batts in fast order.
