Knitting: Working in the endsI do it ok but the very ends tend to fray a little and show.?

Does anyone know how to make the very tips of the yarn to not poke out? Even on the wrong side, it looks tacky and sometimes it moves to the right sidesAnd on blankets, I'm trying to make the wrong side look decent as wellI wondered about holding a flame to the tip and melting it onto the stitching but am nervous about doing that, ha haAny ideas? Thanks

Huge help on building a engine stand that is 14' of material x 3.375 X $.59
I usually work the yarn ends a few stitches beyond where it's needed for securityThen I pull slightly on the yarn end and clip it offWhen I pull on the knitting to stretch it out a bit, the yarn end disappears into the fabricHelpful hints: If possible, hide the yarn ends in a seamIf you're working on an unseamed piece, change yarns at the sides of the workThen work one yarn end UP and the other DOWN on the edge.
