I am planning to do a DIY install project of new flooring in my hallway and dining room and will be selling my home...I have been told to take a second look at installing Laminate...apparently many new features developed recently making Laminate a good choice.....Laminate vs Engineered Hardwood vs Hardwood Flooring which is best value, easiest to install and why?...been told Bamboo is a very hard wood and difficult to work with.....Any installers, DIY with advice?
The laminate would be the easiest to install because it's less time and you don't have to worry about lining things up with each other. But if you want to sell the home for more money I'd go with the hardwood. Depending on how much time you have you could go with the engineered which would take less time but it wouldn't look as natural. Overall it depends on how much you want to sell the home for and how much time you have
It partly depends on the price of your home but I don't like the look or feel of laminate or engineered hardwood and the women are usually the final decision makers on buying a house. Only hardwood has a nice feel and sound. Laminate, etc. has a noisy, high pitched sound when you walk on it - especially high heels. It's also slippery. Also avoid dark colored floors as they show dust and dirt. More buyers are finally catching on to that negative.
Not laminate if your selling your house.. For a DIY er engineered wood is much easier to install. You don t get the slightly curved wood you ll get with real hard wood. But for a selling aspect hardwood is the way to go. Cost is ( on the average) cheaper than engineered but the look is exactly the same since engineered wood is reall on the surface. So if you have good DIY er skills , go with real wood. Any questions you can email me through my avatar. GL
